Opis w j. angielskim:

Following the battle of White River and the fall of Forts Washington and Lee, the British forces pursued the American Continentals westwards into New Jersey. Washington, along with his remaining 5,000 men, crossed the Delaware River at Trenton and the British under General Cornwallis halted to await the bulk of the British Army. Finding that he could not organize enough boats to force a crossing of the Delaware, General Sir William Howe placed most of his army in winter quarters in new York, leaving large detachments throughout New Jersey. In order to stiffen the resolve of his remaining forces, many of whose enlistments were running out, Washington resolved upon a risky strike against the British and Hessian outposts across the river, risking all he ferried his troops across the Delaware on the night of 25 December 1776, falling on the Hessian garrison at Trenton and killing, wounding or capturing over 1,000 men for the loss of only four. The inevitable British response was quick in coming, with Cornwallis and 8,000 men moving quickly towards Trenton; however, although Washington, briefly encountered this force on 2 January 1777, he managed to outflank them before marching on Princeton to the rear, inflicting a further defeat upon a smaller British force before withdrawing safely into winter quarters in Morristown. This brief campaign established Washington’s reputation as a military commander, restored the morale of the American forces and caused the British to give up large parts of New Jersey and safeguarding the revolutionary centre of Philadelphia.
